How did you start your RJ and VJ careers?

This is one such question that I love to answer. This happened when I was working in Marriott hotel and was listening to Club Fm. They had some random fun contest going on, a very simple game. I participated in it and I got the first prize. I went to the club fm to collect the prize. When I saw the studio, I really felt like working as an RJ. When I was in college I used to Emcee for stages. Since my native was Palakkad and there were no radio stations in there, so being an Rj was just a dream for me. I went to club fm and said them that I want to be an Rj, they conducted an audition for me, then I was selected. That’s how I became an Rj. People always ask me that it’s so easy to be  an Rj. It is not! It is same as any other 9 to 5 jobs, sometimes you have to work even overtime. When you work as an Rj you work with a company, so you can’t take any other freelance works. I worked with club Fm and a radio station in Gulf, for a total of 4 years.

I wanted to work with television. I saw an opportunity in a channel, I applied for it. Then I attended the audition, and that’s how I became a VJ

Your style Icon?

My style icon is Vidhya Balan and Nitya Menon. Body shaming has been around us for quite some time now. I’m little stout, so there has been a convention style of dressing for fat people in many peoples minds. Before I started wearing sari I have heard people telling that girls who are little fat do not look good if they wear it, believing that, I did not wear sari for a long time. But then I realized, they were completely wrong, and sari will look good on everyone if we properly wear it. Vidhya Balan and Nitya Menon were two actresses who did not care about these body shaming. They both have a beauty, Charm and they carry it very well even being fat. They have very good sense of style and their styles are very modest.

One quality you wish every woman has?

Underestimating the outfit Sari. I have seen many women asking, oh how do you wear sari and saying I do not know to wear sari, n all. If someone don’t know to wear sari, it is not their mistake, but I think, if we the Indians do not know to wear our clothes, then how will other people know about it? It is one of the most beautiful outfits. I wish the perspective few women have about sari can be improved.

Favorite women character (from any movies, series or books)

My favourite character is Draupadi from Mahabharatha. I do not know too much about Mahabharatha, but the character Draupadi has influenced me so much. I think all women should have the qualities of Panchali. Those who know Draupadi will understand why I say so. She was so bold even in that era and she was bold enough to tell people on face, what is right and wrong. I will be very happy if I get to play Draupdi in any short film or movies, because I adore her so much. In fact I was planning to do a photo shoot on the theme Draupadi, but then it didn’t happen because of the Lock down.

What is fashion means to you?
I’m not a person who always follow the trends. The only trend I followed was the palazzos, but it was a big mistake. For me fashion is always ethnic. I will not feel the elegance of ethnic look in any of the modern outfits.  Main thing is that we cannot accessories too much with modern outfits. I love to dress up always, chains, bangles, makeup, lipstick, hair etc. I love all of these. For me there is nothing more than ethnic in fashion.

STYLE DECODE - TARA KHANNA, MADE IN HEAVEN

'Made In Heaven' is about two wedding planners, Tara Khanna and Karan Mehra and the crazy things that come with planning big fat Indian weddings. Tara Khanna is a hard-working entrepreneur who runs a wedding management company with her friend. The character is played by supremely beautiful Sobitha Dhulipala . Tara wears custom-fit pantsuits, semi-formal dresses, and gorgeous, silk sarees throughout the show. I must say, she looks every bit the elite, urban, working woman she enacts in the series. Her character is giving major fashion goals for work to casual wear and glammed up looks. Apart from her strong character, her styling and dressing throughout the series have got us drooling!! Each stroke of styling is right for the character. The whole looks are styled by stylist Poornamrita Singh .
