Water melon is the best summer snack available to all of us.  It is very sweet and refreshing with low calories. It has vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It is rich in potassium and vitamins A, C, and B. Watermelon are quite low in calories. A single serving of watermelon contains just about 46 calories. Let’s learn what the benefits of water melon are.

  • Water melon has 92% water which makes it the best for staying hydrated especially in the summer. As it is a natural source, it increases urination without stressing the kidneys
  •  It can keep your heart healthy. Eating a slice a water melon everyday can stop the accumulation of bad cholesterol, which in turns prevents heart diseases. 
  • It is a good source of vitamin B, which is responsible for energy production in your body. The fruit is low in calories and high in energy and it can help you stay active for the better part of the day.
  • The vitamin C in watermelon keeps the capillaries and gums healthy. The deficiency of vitamin C can cause bleeding gums and inflammation of the gums.
  • The amino acid citrulline in watermelon relaxes and dilates the blood vessels and might aid in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men.
  • Watermelon, being rich in vitamin C, strengthens the body’s immune system. The fruit also contains vitamin B6 that helps the immune system produce antibodies. The vitamin also aids in the formation of red blood cells.
  • One of the best health benefits of watermelon is that it aids in healthy weight loss. With its high water content, watermelon can fill you up for fewer calories. The water has also been found to speed up metabolism and flush out toxins and fats, which eventually might contribute to weight loss.
  • Watermelon is a good source of vitamin C, the nutrient that is essential for collagen synthesis. Collagen keeps your skin supple and strengthens your hair.

By now we know this red flesh food is good for our body. But what happen if we consume too much of it. Every food is dangerous to our body if we over consume it. Let’s see what are the side effects of eating too much of water melon.
  • Consuming in large quantity may give rise to digestive problems like diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, gas, etc.
  • If you are a diabetic, chances are loading up too much watermelon may increase blood sugar levels.
  • People who drink alcohol regularly should avoid having large quantities of watermelon as the high level of lycopene may react with alcohol, further causing liver inflammation.
  • Over intake of watermelon may cause water intoxication or over hydration, it is a condition when your body has excess of water in it, which leads to loss of sodium content. Consuming large quantity of watermelon may increase the level of water in our body
